UMBRO SPECIALI R – BLACK/WHITE/NEON

Umbro are ready to attack the season with renewed vigour after the warm reception of the Geometra Pro. The first football boots of the pre-season from Cheadle-based brand are these excellently-designed Umbro Speciali R – Black/White/Neon!

The Umbro Speciali R – Black/White/Neon carries on the theme set out by Umbro with the Speciali R, using a classic base colour like Black or White, and adding a more spirited ‘pop’ colour – in this case, a fresh Neon Lime.

Building on the Speciali R’s already classic looks, the Umbro Speciali R – Black/White/Neon version has reminds us a lot of some of the best Italian football boots of the 90’s, like Lotto and Diadora, where a classic black leather upper was often teamed with a bold green with great effect!

One of the best things about the Umbro Speciali R – Black/White/Neon colourway is what a great job the matte black finish does of showing off just how close Umbro’s ‘Kanga Touch’ looks to real leather.

Designed in the same vein as the Nike CTR360 II’s KangaLite, Kanga Touch is used in the upper of the Speciali R to reduce weight and water retention, whilst not sacrificing any of the qualities that make K-Leather the choice of material for some of the best top-level football boots on the market.

Set to hit store shelves later this month, the Umbro Speciali R – Black/White/Neon will make it’s on-pitch debut on the feet of Michael Owen and Darren Bent as they head into pre-season; and needless to say, we’ll be keeping an eye out for any of their Umbro comrades who are tempted by this fresh colourway.

Nice, and that’s the first time I’ve said that about a pair of umbros in a while. They could still do without the pointless boomerang bit but it’s a step in the right direction, hopefully we’ll see some more boots sticking to clean lines and the brand’s herritage rather than trying in vain to keep up with Nike and Adidas with crap like the GTs or the laughable stealth boots
