It’s here! One of the highlights of any English football fan’s calendar has arrived – the new England Away Shirt 2011 – 2012 has landed – and the 3 Lions are officially back in blue!
The first thing many will be shocked at is the simple fact that new England Away Shirt is blue!
After the spirit of ’66 having followed our team to the last 3 major tournaments (that we actually qualified for – sigh) Umbro are giving an exciting new generation of English players the chance to write their own history in a blue new England Away Shirt.
According to Umbro, blue is part of England˘ DNA and has been used by the England team since 1930. Inspiration for the new shirt was also taken from the blue caps given to England players as well as the original British passports which were navy in colour.
As part of Umbro’s ‘Tailored by’ initiative, the new England Away Shirt is constructed using modern tailoring techniques:
– Lightweight and breathable, the shirt uses mesh technology to increase the air flow to the body, updating a design first introduced to the England shirt in 1970 for the Mexico World Cup
– Built using full polyester on the inside to draw sweat away from the body. The cotton outer gives a smart appearance which drives confidence in the player
– Featuring a raglan sleeve and darting over the top edge of the shoulder, the shirt maintains its shape whilst allowing freedom across the body
As with last year’s World Cup incarnation of the new England Away Shirt, Umbro have opted to give someone other than a footballer the chance to launch their latest creation in an unconventional manner!
Just as teased earlier in the week, the new England Away Shirt will be worn by English WBA Boxing Champion David Haye as he walks out at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg tomorrow night before his world heavyweight title unification bout in Germany against Ukrainian fighter Wladimir Klitschko.
Haye commented: ”It˘ an honour to represent my country away from home and as a football fan, the opportunity to launch the England Away shirt is a huge privilege.”
The new England Away kit is available for pre-order now and will go on sale August 10th.
It will be worn by every level of the England team from juniors to seniors including the women˘ team.
I was lucky enough to see the new away kit in person.
The kit is all red, with a small v neck, more anatomicly shaped than the home. But very simular in tailoring. With white shorts with a red stripe down the side simular to the nike Man united home short. The keepers kit is bright yellow.
the training kit is blue with white detail.
Let’s hope that it turns out as good as the home one. I think it’s one of the best shirts to have come out in a very long time.
Umbro have really picked up their game over the last few months. can only be a good thing for the industry.
Great how Capello and the players have such a say in it. Look good – play good!
Time for top ten national shirts of all time???? I’m off to think about mine.
As the ’66 shirt was red, this shirt is more iconic in my opinion.
Let’s hope Umbro match he quality of the current home shirt.
Come on England!
Just trying to think who will have the best boots to match this shirt?? White / Red Speciali’s (obviously), Glen Johnson’s Lotto’s? Crouch if he goes for the K leather v1.10 or how about the Red and White adiPure II’s???
Agree with Jimmy J – Umbro are defo on the up. C’mon England!
Good call on those adiPure II’s Bootiful. I have to admit that I didn’t give them a moment’s thought when they came out but they could look awesome with the new kit. Johnson’s Lotto’s might be the ones to beat though. White and red, classy.
I can’t wait to see this in its full glory.
I agree, red equals ENgland success.
The best boots to match this kit would be the red white adipures.
Anyone seen any pics of this yet? From what I have seen it is similar to the 66 pretty plain, but then so is the home kit.
Boots to match – adipure red white, speciali england, latest CTR is also a mint contrast.
I can see it now. World Cup final 2010. England in red a la ’66. Rooney shoots, he hits the bar. Was it over the line? Russian lino says yes. Victory…..oh hang on, woken up now!
It’s amazing how much work goes in to something like this. A far cry from my school days when it was an ill fitting, cotton rubbing, itchy piece of tat.
how much is the shirt, shorts, socks going to be? Are they also bringing out an anthem jacket again?
I’m hoping the new kit will still have that classic football jersey look and feel as its bang-on with our footballing heritage and completely sets up apart from all the other national sides.
sry,sucks
Great Kit but arent they taking the piss with the price????
why two red tones ???
@Bootiful: definitely beckham. i don’t think he designed his white-red predator X only to match milan’s jersey, but moreover to match England’s home shirt; and eventually this away shirt -since it consists of the same red and white colors.
that even reminds me of his good ol’ days in old trafford… red manchester united shirt, white predator absolute with red stripes, and number 7 on his back 🙂
umbro, well done…you’ve seriously pushed the envelope with this new stiching technique and basic looks. a guaranteed bestseller, too bad the english team is over-hyped and won’t live up to the expectations as usual :S
well, the only hope i had for the next England kit is more stars above the crest 😉
1966 was a lifetime ago, move on lads it’s 2010!
i like it but in irish and i ahve to say ours is way better in the pics when the palyers are wearing it it looks a bit tight still nice good work umbro on all our kits
if england win the world cup they will have to put another star on the shirt so if u can preorder it now then will they put it on before they ship it out or ???
when is this shirt due for release?
i love it
Why are there comments from one year ago on this post??
