Puma’s v1.10 SL was a strange release. Bounding out of seemingly nowhere the day after the World Cup Final as the lightest football'Â boots in the world (weighing just 155g) was all well and good.
But -'Â the main issue many took with the v1.10 SL’s ‘claiming of the crown’ was that it was a bit of a cheat. As light as it was, Puma only produced their football boots in a small range of sizes (between size 7 and 9 UK) in order to maintain that low weight.
This time, the Puma v1.11SL is aiming to put that right. Not only is the weight under that of the .10’s by a whole 5 grammes; it’s now available in the full range of sizes you would expect from an adult football boot.
Utilizing many of the same technologies that Puma have made use of on the new v1.11, the Puma v1.11 aims to be the ultimate fusion of comfort and lightweight manoeuvrability.
For every speed-boosting feature such as a carbon fibre sole, thermoplastic outsole or premium microfibre upper, there’s a counter, like the inclusion of Puma’s ergonomic aptoLast fitting system, synthetic suede sockliner or moulded EVA foam cushioned sole.

Puma v1.11 SL Launch
The Puma v1.11 SL is available at retail from June 1st 2011, with two launch colourways; Fluo Green/Navy and White/Black/Asther Blue each costing 200/$220.
Inter Milan’s Samuel Eto’o is set to be the key wearer for these football boots during the Africa Cup of Nations 2011.

So have they released an SL and a normal boot a la the AdiZero and the Prime? If so, that is now 4 boots from top names that run rings around the Superfly in terms of being a pure speed boot, Nike really need to get they’re act together IMO!

But let’s think about this – even though it is the lightest boot, is it actually the fastest boot???? As we all know mass is only one variable in obtaining the greatest speed and agility – just got to look at F1 for proof of that…..
The Puma v1.10 SL’s were NOT “cheating.” Puma expressly stated to order up a whole size, and another review site confirmed that the size 10 SL (size 9 in normal shoes, the standard for weighing), was indeed 155 grams. It is “cheating” in that there was a very limited range of sizes, but not cheating by manipulating shoe sizes to give the appearance of a lower weight.
The only cheater is nike, their superflys in size 7uk weigh a solid 233 grams, nevermind a uk 8
@Dr Leather – the average adult male player probably weighs around at least 70kgs. Light boots do not make anybody any faster at all. This is just marketing.
Being light is not the main factor of this boot I don’t think, but the feeling nothing is there but your feet are still covered. Just bought the 1.10sl size 10.5us and at 190g they are far from the 155g they quote but the touch and comfort they offer makes it the best boots that I have ever worn. So they’re not as light as primes they don’t have to be, as over all they are far superior boot.
