MOURINHO PAYS THANKS TO MADRID’S SPECIAL SHINPADS

Real Madrid gaffer Jose Mourinho took some time out of his post-match press conference to pay thanks to Real Madrid’s high-tech shinpads after a particularly fiery derby clash with Atletico Madrid.

For what it’s worth, Ronnie, that would have hurt a lot more without those fancy shinnies…

The Madrid derby between Real and Atletico was far from a ‘beautiful game’, as Los Colchoneros finished the game with nine men, and having conceded two penalties as Real triumphed 4-1 at the Bernabeu.

In a game that was promised to be “ugly” and “conflictive” by Atl'tico coach, Gregorio Manzano, there were a seemingly uncountable number of fouls – but Real Madrid were left without any long-term injuries thanks – according to Mourinho – to their Carbon Fibre shinpads.

“Luckily there are carbon shinguards, they can help. A couple of players are going home limping today, but the carbon shinguards did their job well today. They’re expensive, but worth it.”

Carbon Fibre shinguards are a relatively new innovation, having been available to the general public since 2006, when Diadora made a pair specifically for Francesco Totti to protect a recurring injury during the World Cup and have since been produced more widely by both Nike and adidas – all of which made it onto our list of the most expensive shinpads in the world!

Given that Carbon Fibre is regarded as one of the strongest materials in the world (for it’s weight), we think it’s no surprise to find them in use by one of the world’s top clubs.

But what is surprising is that Mourinho would use his post-match press conference to talk about them – maybe we’re just so used to top-level managers slagging off lightweight football boots and Barcelona complaining about their shirts recently, we’re just happy to see some love for the humble shinny!

When it comes to the most expensive shinpads, i guess you havent heard about Enrico Campari. Camparis shinpads is worn by most of the professionals today, custom made. 3.000 euro for a pair.
