Following on from Serigio Aguero’s official confirmation as a Puma football boots wearer a fortnight ago, reports have begun to surface over the details on the Argentine Ace’s new deal with the German sports brand.
As Puma confirmed to us a fortnight ago, the Manchester City forward has just begun a ‘long-term’ deal with the brand to wear the Puma v1.11 football boots, and will become the global face of Puma for many of their campaigns outside of football too, including modelling for their sports-lifestyle brands clothing range.
However, as one of the most expensive signings in football this summer at around £35m, the price of Puma’s endeavour was never bound to be cheap.
But a recent report in some British newspapers has recently placed the figure offered by Puma at around £5m over the course of four seasons.
Such a figure would put the Argentine Ace on around £1.25m a year to wear all the latest football boots to come from Puma, with this season concentrated on promoting the Puma v1.11.
What’s more, the same reports say that Aguero will pocket a bonus for any goals scored in the high-profile Champions League games with Manchester City and any World Cup goals with Argentina; along with a tidy sum for being the Premier League’s top scorer.
The latter term would put him in direct contest with cross-town rival Wayne Rooney, who has a similar clause in his football boots deal with Nike – which is allegedly worth around £4m over four seasons.
Both deals, however compare to continental superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The two La Liga colossi are allegedly on football boots deals worth around £2m-a-season with adidas and Nike respectively.
Puma, however, would certainly argue that their deal with Aguero is a prudent piece of business.
From 23 to 27, Aguero will be in the prime of his career and playing in all the biggest stages of world football wearing Puma football boots, and the presence of Argentine, nicknamed ‘Kun’, in the German brand’s stable of players has already got hardcore football fans seeing this as a turning point for the brand, who could well be on the way to signing World Cup-winner Cesc Fabregas in a similar deal.
